Jam jar tea lights

A couple of years ago I was given a craft drill with a set of etching tools, this morning I felt the urge to use it for the first time. My mission was to have a go at etching jam jars to be used as tea light holders.

I started out by drawing a simple design on paper and popping it inside the jar to use as a guide.

This worked OK but I think it would work better if the design was drawn onto black paper with a white pen because it was a little tricky to follow due to the fact that I couldn't see the etched line.

My little assistant helped me choose the appropriate etching tool....

This is the second one I made. Free hand this time...I couldn't be bothered to draw another template (easily bored you see).

For the third one I etched a wasp design.

As I was etching I thought it might be a nice idea to do one with a moth design, they would look as though they were fluttering around the flame - could look good (?)

They look sweet when lit.

I'll be doing more of these. I reckon they'd look lovely on a dinner table or on the mantle shelf at Christmas.

  1. They look really good. I have often heard my Grandad talk about his Dremmel (?) but never knew it could do things like that.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend xx

  4. I love the wasp design and think a moth design would work fabulously. When I saw the wasp I wondered if this jar was to be used for catching them in summer.
