Morris Dancing

This year is the 40th anniversary of the Forest of Dean Morris Men so to help them celebrate Morris Men from all over the country have jingle jangled their way to the area to have a bit of a knees up (literally!).

I popped along to a village called Newland to take a few pictures for you. I even got bopped on the head with a bladder on a stick...the things I do for you!!

It looks a right old laugh being a Morris Man, they turned up in a coach, headed straight for the pub got a few inside them and had a dance whilst cracking jokes and chuckling a lot.

That said I wouldn't want to marry one...no offence...

  1. aah, yes, nothing like a bit of Morris dancing in the summer! Our local group have one dancer dressed as a horse - my children are terrified of him, with the head on he's about 8 feet tall!

  2. They did have a horse but they didn't use him. I find them a little scary too they seem to like sneaking up on people and scaring the living day lights out of them!

  6. How fun! Great pictures! I suppose these guys are a bit like the folks here who dress up for the Renaissance Festival. They enjoy a bit of history and acting a role.

  7. I'm all for Morris dancing! Anything that brings camaraderie and jollity can only be a good thing. Long live the eccentricities of this fair island!
