A sad story with hopefully a happy ending

Last night I finished work at 10 o'clock but instead of driving straight home I decided to take a trip along the forest roads to see if I could spot any deer or wild boar roaming about.

As I was driving along in the rain my headlights passed over what looked like a little black fury ball tucked into the curb. I had to investigate...I drove a little further and found a spot to turn around and go back to check it out.

What I found was a sweet tiny black and white kitten shivering with cold and fright. I tried to pick her up but she was hissing quite a lot and cars were zooming by. Eventually I managed to get hold of her and get her to the safety of my car where I could see she had a little spot of blood on her nose.

I took her over to my sister's house where we warmed her up and John (my sister's other half) sorted out a little bowl of food which she gobbled up. Because she is so young we think she's been left by someone who possibly can't afford to keep her. There have been one or two stories in the local paper about sightings of kittens being thrown out of cars to fend for themselves...poor little things.

Well this little one isn't going to have to fend for herself if I've got anything to do with it. I've already named her Kerby and I'm hoping that we will become good friends.

This morning I checked her over and she's struggling to use one of her back legs but doesn't seem to be in too much pain because she'll let me touch her leg without any fuss. As I'm typing this she is at the vets waiting to be looked at to see if she is going to be OK. Please send little Kerby get well vibes so that I can keep her and love her because she's had such a bad start. xxx

By the way I'm only guessing that she is in fact a she....I'll keep you all updated on her progress as I get word.

Sorry about the blurred photo, I didn't want to freak her out too much by taking photo after photo.

  2. God, I am feeling murderous reading this, there is no excuse for dumping animals! So glad you found her - once she is over her bad start, she'll soon recover and I'll bet you have the most loving cat you could wish for; they don't forget things like being saved. (Assuming it's a she, most black cats with white bits I've known have been hes)

  3. Thanks for the vibes Sue and it's interesting to know that most black and white cats are male I didn't know that. He/she looks so lost just look at that little face.

  7. oh how lucky he/she was to have you decide that you were to take the forest route home.
So sad that people have the need to throw animals out of their cars, when they could easily take them to an animal santuary. Anyway fingers and paws crossed that the poor little thing will be ok x x Such a sweetie x

  12. What a sweetie. :-)

We found our kitty Turbo in much the same way, although we were driving down a dark country back road.

It was cold and wet so we stopped.

He ran to me, I picked him up, and he started to purr.

The rest as they say, is history. He's been with us for nearly twelve years now.
