More building work

The other reason that I've been quiet lately is because I've had the builders in to sort out a little problem. If you've been reading for a while you'll remember that I had a wooden floor laid in my living rooms. Well shortly after it was laid it started to rise up in the middle causing a lump to form. It was a little annoying every time I forgot it was there and stumbled over it nearly breaking my neck!

It turned out that a huge patch of damp had appeared under the window and the moisture in the air was causing the floor to expand and move. So the only thing for it was to take up the floor, remove the plaster from the wall, apply a damp proof coating and add a drainage gully to the exterior of the house and then put it all back together again.

I've been waiting for the builder to come and do the work for ages and ages. He had arranged to come and sort it all out a few times but kept letting me down, aarrrgghhh!

He finally came to do the job the week before Christmas which meant that I wasn't in the mood to put any decorations up as the place was in such a mess. The skirting boards didn't go back on until about 2 weeks ago this was just in case there was further movement.

I've also had wooden shelves installed in the alcoves either side of the fire place. So now all that's left to do is to paint the whole house again and dress the rooms in the way I want....yippee! It's taken me nine years to get this house looking how I want it and a lot of scrimping and saving.

I've hired my brother in law to do the painting so I'll soon be in the position to show you some finished photos.

  1. Heart breaking when you think you have got there and then find something goes wrong. What is it with builders and time keeping?

  2. My builder is such a nice bloke. I think he just says yes to every job and I think the people that shout the loudest gets their job done first.
