Paying my mortgage off early - a personal goal.

It's been a busy old time lately at Pea Pod HQ. I've been working hard on my master plan so anything computer related has been pushed into the background.

Let me tell you about my master plan...

My master plan is to pay my mortgage off as fast as I can and to apply for part time work at the company I work for whilst using the 'spare' hours to build and grow Drop the Weasel (my little online shop). In these times of redundancies and the like, nothing is set in stone and so I want to feel as secure as possible. There have been changes at the company I work for recently and everyone is getting a little jittery so I feel I have to be ahead of the game.

On the day I took my mortgage on I decided that I would try to make over payments and bring the amount down faster.

I have to say at this point that I am by no means loaded with cash and at times it's been a struggle and very tiring but I am bloody proud of what I've done so far and I'm determined to keep on going and have my day of glory when I hand over the last pound coin and say thank you very much whilst popping open a bottle of bubbly!

For the last 8 years or so I've worked every bit of overtime going, I've sold my art and I've watched by budget closely. This is why on occasions The Pea Pod goes a little quite, I'm sure you don't want to read endless posts about me going to work!! BORING!!

In this time I've completely renovated the house, payed off my student loan and a loan from mum and dad and so far knocked 7 years and 8 months off my mortgage, yaaay!!

This little 'Blue Peter' like chart is my motivation house, every brick represents a payment which gets crossed off each month. I know it's silly but it really works for me and you can't believe the huge smile on my face when I get to cross a brick off - sad I know!

At the turn of the new year I decided to up my game a bit, so I've been booking craft stalls where ever I can fit them in, I've joined up to sell at the Gloucestershire craft markets and as well as my Bigcartel shop I've opened my Etsy shop too, I'm also looking for shops that will stock my work.

So, the last 2 months have been spent coming up with new ideas and making, making, making and not blogging, blogging, blogging.

So there you have it. I didn't know if I should tell you all this or not because I know there are people struggling out there who are finding it hard to cope. This is not meant to be a post for me to brag. Everything I own is second hand or, in some cases rescued from a pile of rubbish or a skip so I am in no way living the high life.

  1. Yes you should brag!! You work HARD, make wonderful stuff, actually do something about selling what you make (rather then those of us who have wonderful ideas but never seem to get around to actually doing anything about making, not least selling these things.)

SO you should feel VERY proud, chuffed, happy, etc etc.

And I love the brick house idea. Keep going!

I know a lot of people are struggling, some through no fault of their own. But you can only do the best for YOU! I also like the idea of the bricks on the house.
If you want some frugal ideas- I follow the Frugal Queen! frugal in Cornwall blog. She paid off debts etc.

    1. Thank you so much, I've wanted to do this post for a while but I was a little worried that I might sound like a money grabber that only ever thinks of cash and nothing else! So it's really lovely to get these comments xx

What you are doing and have been doing is brilliant and i understand just how you feel and you should be really proud of yourself ;-)When my marriage to my boys dad ended he left me in debt and it took me 6 years to get where i am now. I have paid everything back including the loan i had to take out to keep my boys and myself a float and i have come out the other end so i know just how you feel. I love your brick house idea its brilliant. Look forward to seeing you on Saturday, dee xx

  9. Wow - this is an amazing idea and one we use at work (at a mortgage company) a lot to help us hit targets - can't believe never thought about to use at home d'oh.

Keep going with it - nothing like seeing a sad face on the bankers at all the interest you've NOT had to pay them ;)

Your work is beautiful and like above there's (I think) still a MADE In Gloucestershire/Stroud shop on Stroud high street, perhaps you could approach them too?
